For the novel of the same name, see: The White Rose

The White Rose was a woman whose Rebellion ended the era in the northern continent known as the Domination by defeating the Dominator, his wife the Lady, and the Ten Who Were Taken. This occurred 370 years before the establishment of the Lady's Empire. She directed her campaigns in the Great Forest and was widely regarded as one of the greatest generals ever to live. And, although there was "nothing in the histories about her powers or their noteworthy absence", it would be ascertained centuries later that she must have been in possession of an anti-magic null, just as her reincarnation would.

Before Croaker's Annals

According to Croaker's research, 125,000 lives were lost in the battles waged across the Great Forest between the White Rose and the Dominator. The White Rose herself delivered a blow to the Limper, leaving a permanent scar on his forehead, left cheek, and reportedly down to his left breast.

Her final battle against the Dominator was fought while the Great Comet illuminated much of the sky. While the White Rose did defeat her enemies, she was unable to destroy them for unspecified reasons. Instead, she sealed the Dominator, the Lady, the Ten, and scores of demons in an unconscious state inside a series of graves called the Barrowland. Her sorcerers surrounded the Barrowland with lethal protective spells, guardian spirits, a sleeping dragon, a moat, and a permanent military force called the Eternal Guard.

Although no chronicle specified how she accomplished such a great victory, it became apparent centuries later that her power was a null field: an invisible sphere which surrounded her and negated all magic.

According to the historian Croaker, after the White Rose's stunning victory:

The followers of the White Rose were not gentle victors. They burned books and cities, transported women and children, profaned ancient works of art and famous shrines. The customary afterglow of a great conflagration.

The language of the Domination, TelleKurre, became extinct and was replaced with other languages, including Forsberger.

After the death of the White Rose, the location of her grave was lost to history.

Reincarnation

About 370 years later, a young girl from Forsberg named Darling demonstrated the same uncommon power to nullify magic. She was considered the reincarnation of the White Rose and became the leader of the New White Rose Rebellion against the Lady and her new Taken. Darling eventually allied with her to face the greater menace of a newly-awakened Dominator.
