The Prisoner by Martin Tompsky

The Prisoner by Martin Tompsky

"Reaching out of the ground, fumbling at the bark of a root, was a human hand and forearm, long, leathery, greenish, with nails grown to claws then broken and bleeding upon Father Tree."

The White Rose, Chapter 44: The Quickening

The unnamed prisoner beneath Father Tree was an immensely powerful sorcerer – possessing a magnitude on par with the Dominator – that ruled millennia ago in the northern continent. In events that were already legendary in the Lady's youth, the side of "light" summoned Father Tree, a god from another realm, in the form of a sapling; the cost was that thousands perished and whole counties were devastated. Father Tree was planted over the subterranean prison of the defeated foe, and the Tree has kept him captive at the center of what would become the Plain of Fear ever since.[1] The prisoner nearly escaped when Darling unintentionally interefered with Father Tree by approaching with her null. After an explosion of sorcery, Lady and Croaker removed Darling's unconscious body, moving the null away from Father Tree, and the unnamed prisoner was subdued.[2] Not long afterward, the prisoner's exposed arm attempted to opportunistically crush Croaker's ankle, but the ancient wizard was again subdued by Father Tree's overpowering sorcery.[3]
