Trogo is the wealthiest and oldest neighborhood in the sprawling southern city of Taglios. It contains the storied, massive royal palace, the most important Gunni temples, and presumably major temples for the Shadar and Vehdna faiths as well.
In the distant past, Trogo was its own city, but over time it became "enveloped by the younger, more energetic Taglios." However, Trogo still "retained its identity only because it was the seat of the lords of the greater principiate, its governmental and religious center."[1] Croaker theorized that the riverport town called Maheranga, a "satellite" of Taglios itself, "would share the fate of Trogo" – that is, become enveloped by the city's continual, creeping outward sprawl.
The exclusive grove establishment bestrides a hill near Trogo.
Lady recognized the influence of Trogo when she wrote: "Around here power emanated from the palace and the temples of Trogo Taglios. A few frightened men there could issue bulls and dictates forbidding the faithful from joining me."[2] Chandra Chan Tal and his crony subordinate Gunni priests must have been from Trogo, and presumably were killed in temples there by Lady's new allies, the Stranglers. Most of the hundreds of priests she later slaughtered at the Massacre at Khadi Junction must have been from Trogo, as well.
Trogo is not mentioned in later Annals outside the context of the Palace of Taglios. But it undoubtedly was the location of numerous subsequent events involving the Black Company. Trogo and the Palace within became the seat of the Protectorate when Soulcatcher seized control. Trogo was also the epicenter of a massive airborne explosion in Soldiers Live, which took place at the very beginning of the Siege of Taglios. At least an entire acre of the Palace was utterly flattened. This occurred when two rheitgeistiden (magic flying posts) flown by Mihlos Sedona and General Chu were blown up by fireballs launched by Mogaba's shooters atop the roof of the Palace. The immense shock wave smashed "in an acre of Palace like an invisible giant's foot stomping on eggshells". Most of the Palace was in ruins at the end of the battle.
