Tally was the most easterly province of the Lady's Empire in the northern continent during Shadows Linger.
A formerly independent kingdom, Tally is a bleak place with only two substantial towns:
- Tome: 2,000 miles east of Charm; where the Black Company would garrison
- Heart: where the Tallylander king lived
West of Tally is an arc of 5 massive cities – Rust, Frost, Ade, Barns, and Thud – which had previously been the eastern border arc of the Empire for decades. Northeast of Tally is Tambor, "an even bleaker kingdom".
Two years before Shadows Linger, the new Taken known as Whisper slew the Tallylander king. The Lady then crowned a new puppet king at Heart, who turned out to be unpopular among the Tallylanders.
Shadows Linger[]
The Lady's agents collected detailed intelligence about Rebel activity in Tally, and then the Black Company was sent to kill them. A veteran team consisting of Silent, Croaker, Candy, Pawnbroker, Kingpin, and Otto set up an ambush inside a tavern owned by the local barkeeper Madle. There, they killed more than two dozen Rebels, including the mid-level organizer Neat. One man escaped, however, and raised the alarm. A massive mob of Rebels from throughout the province descended upon Madle's tavern later. During a harrowing fight, the Company brothers killed most of them and executed the prisoners afterward.
The Lady's spies reported that the few surviving Rebels fled to Tambor, northeast of Tally. Although Croaker suspected that the Company would be sent to Tambor in pursuit, this would not be the case: instead, they were suddenly recalled west, across the Plain of Fear to Frost and ultimately to the Barrowland.
