The southern continent of the homeworld was the setting for most of the Books of the South, as well as some of the events of The Silver Spike and many of the events of the Books of Glittering Stone. Its northern boundary is the Sea of Torments, above which lies the northern continent.
Natural features
Major natural features – starting south of Beryl and continuing southward – include:
- the shaggy hills
- the savannah of K'Hlata, a 14-day ride on horseback
- the massive jungle of D'loc Aloc
- the sluggish great river and its First, Second, and Third Cataracts
- the surging Main river and its 4 fords: Theri, Numa, Ghoja, and Vehdna-Bota
- the shunned Grove of Doom
- the icy, indigo Lake Tanji
- the sprawling Dandha Presh mountain range and its single pass, the Plain of Charandaprash
- the barren Shindai Kus desert which borders up against the western ocean
Other natural features – starting east of Beryl, continuing eastward, and mentioned exclusively in The Silver Spike – include:
- the River Bigotes
- the Hyclades
- the Rani Poor, longitudinally at least "seventy silvery miles of lifeless, mirror-flat salt desert"
- the Canyons of the Undead
- the Plain of Dano-Patha
- the Mountains of Sinjian, known for their "savage defiles"
- the Straits of Angine, a location in the Sea of Torments where the southern continent comes closest to the northern continent

- Dejagore, also called "Jaicur" by the locals and "Stormgard" by the Shadowmasters, a major city south of the Grove
- Tragevec, also called "Shadowlight" when it was part of the Shadowlands, another major city near the most populous and prosperous region of the Shadowlands
- New Dhar, had been simply "Dar" before being leveled and rebuilt by the Shadowmasters, a noteworthy city somewhere south of Dejagore and north of Kiaulune
- Fred, a noteworthy city somewhere south of Dejagore and north of Kiaulune
- Six, a noteworthy city somewhere south of Dejagore and north of Kiaulune
- Pityus, the very first place to be conquered by the Shadowmasters
- Kiaulune, a massive, ancient city, called "Shadowcatch" when it was part of the Shadowlands, deep in the southernmost region
- the prehistoric and mysterious structure called the shadowgate
