Pooch was a "barely competent" sworn brother of the underground Black Company during the events of Water Sleeps.

Pooch, like the rest of the Company at the time, was embedded among the urban population of Taglios. He and Spiff took orders from One-Eye the wizard, ultimately answering to Sleepy (the Company's ranking officer at the time). Pooch and Spiff were functioning alternatively as couriers and a sentries when Sleepy had Arjana Drupada, the Purohita, kidnapped. Later, the "barely competent" Pooch, again paired with Spiff, were ordered by One-Eye to assassinate Adoo, the gateman of the library of Taglios. This was simply one part of Sleepy's rush of activity to keep the Company's whereabouts concealed.
Pooch was almost certainly a veteran of the preceding Kiaulune wars. He was from the southern continent but it is not specified if he was Taglian, Shadowlander, or some another race. Like all members of the underground Company at the time of his mention, Pooch worked diligently at a day job, and handled Company affairs during off-hours. His job was unspecified but, like Slink, he might have been a laborer for Banh Do Trang, their Nyueng Bao collaborator whose warehouse was the Company's secret headquarters. It is likely Pooch was part of one of the Company waves that secretly left Taglios, moved south, rendezvoused with the others, and crossed the Shadowgate. He is not mentioned in Soldiers Live so his fate is unspecified.
