New Dhar is a noteworthy city in the southern continent that was visited by Soulcatcher and her minion Frogface in Dreams of Steel. Originally known simply as Dhar, the city was leveled when it strongly resisted the four conquering Shadowmasters. It was rebuilt and renamed "New Dhar", now part of the Shadowlands. But the population deeply distrusted their tyrants. Longshadow installed a puppet governor, a corrupt man who robbed the people of the city and kept their wealth in his massive vault, guarded by sentries at all times.

Dreams of Steel[]

Soulcatcher, having escaped from her captivity at Overlook alone and on foot, reunited with her imp Frogface in a field outside New Dhar. She knew that Longshadow was sending a gigantic killing shadow to dispatch her, so she had Frogface assist her in one final task before she would set him free to return to his demon world. As the shadow passed through the city to hunt Soulcatcher, everyone within New Dhar (even those unskilled in sorcery) sensed its dreadful approach. Children wept and people scrambled to hide their families from the unseen horror. Frogface took on Soulcatcher's appearance, and materialized in one new spot after another for a few hours. The shadow could kill Frogface if it caught him, but he would be safe if he kept ahead of it, which he could do indefinitely if he remained alert. Though immensely dangerous, the shadow was a mindless entity and simply kept persisting. Frogface lured it to places where it would kill and terrify key populations within the city, as part of Soulcatcher's plan to cause anti-Shadowmaster sentiment in New Dhar to boil over. They finally trapped it in the governor's vault, which Catcher specially prepared to contain the entity. Frogface was greatly amused by their last mission, but reminded his mistress that he had business in his "own world" to attend to. They departed together, "laughing like children". Catcher presumably released Frogface to return to his world as she had promised once they reached the city limits.
