Minkus Scudd was a sworn brother of the Black Company who was Croaker's understudy physician for part of Port of Shadows. Croaker described him as "mostly a waste of air".[1] Minkus and Corey were tasked with keeping an eye on Buzz after the otherworldly chinkami were discovered in Aloe.
Sometime later, Croaker wrote that Minkus had been "executed, not slain by enemy action, for criminal stupidity" by the Company. Outsweeper – the Company's dedicated grave keeper – inscribed on Scudd's memorial stone that he had been "put to death with special indignity".[2] Neither Scudd's specific crime nor the circumstances of his execution are detailed in the Annals. His remains were buried by Outsweeper in the Company's Aloen graveyard, among the trees of an apple orchard located half a mile from the Company's compound. Of the 17 deceased Company members memorialized by Outsweeper whose inscriptions were recorded by Croaker, only Minkus featured in the Annals beforehand; the remaining 16 names only appeared in the context of their memorial inscriptions.
Minkus Scudd was succeeded as Croaker's apprentice by Edmous Black.[3]
