Black Company Wiki
With the Black Company I took advice from Fritz Leiber who was my mentor and who said “Don’t draw a map because if you draw a map, as soon as you start drawing the map, you start narrowing your possibilities”. As long as you don’t have a map you don’t have to conform to certain things. I have a vague map inside my head and I’ve seen many maps on the internet of what people thought the Black Company world might be like. They’re not too far off, but they’re not close either. It’s north and south with a pond in the middle.

There is no official or canonical map of the world of the Black Company series due to the reasons explained by series author Glen Cook quoted above. However, the non-canonical maps shown here have been created throughout the years by various fans and at least two publishers using details from the stories. The most up-to-date of these – first released in 2022 by Redditor called Scwoobee – are featured here at the top of this list. Prior to this, perhaps the most well-known map for many years was the large black-and-white map found within The Black Company Campaign Setting RPG game. Other fan-created maps presenting alternative interpretations of the geography are preserved here as well.

The most current and detailed maps by Scwoobee 2022[]

The most current trio of maps were first released in February 2022 by a Redditor called Scwoobee. The map of the north is the first to include geographical details revealed in the relatively new short story series referred to as the On The Long Run arc. It includes the Gap, the Pocatose archipelago, and the Strait of Vermust from the 2021 story "Cranky Bitch" as well as the Village of Hungry Ghosts from the 2015 story "Bone Eaters".

The Campaign Setting map 2004[]

A very detailed black-and-white map was included in The Black Company Campaign Setting published by Green Ronin in 2004. Although the map has errors, omissions, and misspellings, it is perhaps the most well-known map because it detailed the largest amount of territory for many years:

Map by Devi 2017[]

A color map created by fan reader and digital artist Devi shows the northern continent and the uppermost portion of the southern continent. It bears a strong resemblance to the 2006 map, shown next, for a planned Warcraft III mod and may have been based upon it. Devi's map shows the exact same range and has nearly identical locations for the same cities and geographical features as the older Warcraft mod map.

The locations shown are from the Books of the North trilogy, as well as the locations Toadkiller Dog passed through in The Silver Spike and a handful of the cities mentioned in Shadow Games.

Map for planned Warcraft III mod 2006[]

A color map of the northern continent and part of the southern continent was created by a gamer called BadThrall, who started development on a Black Company-themed mod using the Warcraft III: Frozen Throne engine in 2006. It may have been the basis for the more detailed 2017 map by Devi, shown above, which bears a strong resemblance to it.

The locations shown are from the Books of the North trilogy, as well as the locations Toadkiller Dog passed through in The Silver Spike and a handful of the cities mentioned in Shadow Games.

Maps in the Serbian translations[]

The Serbian translation of The White Rose (2008) contains a sizable map by artist Dejan Mandić depicting the northern continent and the uppermost portion of the southern continent:

The Serbian translation of Shadows Linger (2006) featured a small map depicting the city of Juniper, also by Dejan Mandić:
