Black Company Wiki

Chandra Gokhale was one of the high-ranking bureaucrats of Taglios loyal to Soulcatcher during Water Sleeps. His role was Inspector-General of the Records. As a member of the Privy Council, he was one of several officials targeted for abduction by Sleepy and her Black Company, which was at this time a clandestine urban underground unknown even to Soulcatcher.

Before Water Sleeps[]

Many years before the Books of the South, Chandra Gokhale was appointed to a minor civic role by the ruler of Taglios (the father of the Prahbrindrah Drah and the Radisha Drah). Gokhale's role had still been an unimportant one when the Black Company first arrived in Taglios (in Shadow Games). But over the years and throughout both the Shadowmaster wars and the Kiaulune wars, he expanded his office dramatically. By the time of the ProtectorateSoulcatcher's new sprawling Taglian empire – Gokhale had gained control of the principality's finances and public works.

Water Sleeps[]

By Water Sleeps, Gokhale was an ancient, hairless man, "lean as a snake and twice as mean". He often squabbled with Purohita Arjana Drupada on the Privy Council, where he usually enjoyed the support of the Radisha. He became one of several high Taglian officials to be abducted by Sleepy, the leader of the underground Black Company. Others included the Radisha, Willow Swan, and Purohita Drupada. He was left behind in a cage when the Company escaped southward toward the Shadowgate. When Soulcatcher eventually found him, he was in no condition to resume his duties as Inspector-General.
